The Growlin’ Gourmet is a family owned company. We are located in the historic North Dam Mill in the coastal Maine town of Biddeford. Our two dogs, Java and Thumper, are the inspiration behind The Growlin’ Gourmet.
As a professional chef who graduated from the Culinary Institute of America and a nurse practitioner we are knowledgeable and passionate about the benefits of living a holistic lifestyle. When we rescued our dogs, we knew we wanted to provide them with the best quality of life we could manage. We researched a holistic approach to dog health and applied what we learned to the care of our canine companions. The result...they thrived!
Concerned about the ingredients in store bought treats we started baking our own healthy, great tasting biscuits. We used only the finest organic ingredients.
The treats were a big hit with Java and Thumper as well as their four-legged friends. It was after much encouragement from family and friends that we developed The Growlin’ Gourmet, allowing us to share these wholesome treat with you.
Ok, enough about all of that. Now let us introduce you to our two canine pals.....
We adopted Java from a local animal shelter in 2002. At seven months old she had already been in and out of three different homes and was losing her trust in people. As soon as we met her we knew that our home would be her forever home.
Thumper came to us through a rescue group based in the south. He arrived in Maine around Christmas 2003. He was a skinny, scruffy animal who stood shivering in the very cold winter air. He has adapted quite readily to his new home in the snowy north.
At The Growlin’ Gourmet we are committed to doing our part in protecting the earth. We use organic ingredients and as much as possible we use ingredients that are produced locally.
We are also committed to giving back to animals in need. The Growlin’ Gourmet provides samples and products to local non-profit events which support animal causes. A portion of our profits are donated to local agencies supporting animals in need.
