Thumper's Thoughts

As we begin July, and hopefully have more days of sunshine than in the recent past, I will indulge in one of my favorite pastimes. Lounging around in the backyard.

Now this may sound like the easy life, but there are many things that I need to do. First, I have to make sure I dig a large enough hole in my “sandbox” for both my sister and me to fit into when we need a rest.

Then, there is the rolling around on my back, aka snoopy impersonation. I especially like to roll in Mom’s daylilies. Though, I get the impression she doesn’t think I do it very well.

I constantly have to remind the squirrels that this is my yard, and they need to stay away from the bird feeder. This seems to be the most tiring part of my day. I run over to tell them to stay away from the birdseed, but they are able to change direction much faster than I can, so I never get close enough to tell them.

While I’m on squirrel patrol my sister is more interested in the slow moving slugs that slide along the patio. They never bother with the bird feeder, so I’m not sure what all the fuss is about.

At some point Mom and Dad come out to throw a tennis ball or a Frisbee. It doesn’t matter to me which one they toss but for some reason my sister has to have the one I pick up, so she always tries to steal it . Go figure.

Before I know it dinner is ready. I suddenly realize I haven’t taken my afternoon siesta in the beautiful hole I dug earlier. Oh well, there’s always tomorrow. I guess lounging around in the yard is more work than I thought. Boy, am I exhausted. Happy summer!
